Junior’s, the World’s Most Fabulous Cheesecake, is a New York City landmark; since 1950, the Rosen family has been making delicious confections for locals. The global marketplace challenged them to develop a system that would let them satisfy the cravings of Fabulous Cheesecake fans near and far. The family-owned business met the challenge with an online store. Now, you can sit down in one of Junior’s restaurants in NYC to enjoy a cheesecake and coffee, or you can sit on your porch in Ohio and enjoy the same treat, thanks to new technology.

Harry Rosen started selling Junior’s Most Fabulous Cheesecake and Dessert from his store at the corner of Flatbush and DeKalb in Brooklyn in 1950. Fewer than a handful of people have ever known the recipe, including Harry and his Master Baker. It’s a closely guarded secret. That’s okay, though, since you can feast on their special creations at one of three restaurants in the Big Apple: the original, a store in Grand Central Station, and a store on Times Square.

Today, Harry Rosen’s grandson, Kevin, manages the company and keeps the secret of the cheesecake recipe. It was Kevin Rosen who recognized the need to break out into new markets and who stepped up to take advantage of modern technology to meet that need. The process of integrating new technology to supplement an old-fashioned business began as Mr. Rosen worked to meet the cheesecake demand of former New Yorkers transplanted to places far and wide.

The first step was a website; Kevin Rosen saw everyone else launching a site and decided to hang one of his own for Junior’s. It didn’t take long to realize that the website was only a first step. What Junior’s really needed was a new way to sell cheesecake; what Kevin created was a fully interactive online shop. Today, online shoppers can select their treats from a wide selection of standard and specialty cheesecakes. Their dessert will arrive packaged in a couple of days, specially packaged for freshness. And for those experiencing a cheesecake emergency, overnight shipping is available.

It can be very comforting to know that those things you love best about your home town are still available to you, no matter where you roam. Junior’s Most Fabulous Cheesecakes and Desserts still invites sweets lovers to pull up a chair and savor a piece; today, though, they don’t have to be in Brooklyn to do it, courtesy of the internet and Kevin Rosen’s inspiration to add to his family’s business.
